BB Cream made its debut into the world of makeup a long time ago. But Beauty Balm (BB) wasn’t just created for a soft, natural foundation vibe. BB cream is uniquely infused with skincare benefits. Depending on the formula, BB creams offer UV protection, anti-aging benefits, hydration, and nutrients critical for healthy skin.
As for the aesthetic features that make it a makeup bag must-have, BB cream can also replace color corrector, tinted moisturizer , lightweight foundation, spot concealer, or and can even be used as a natural cream contour product.
Choosing how to use BB cream will depend on what you’re trying to achieve. Spoiler alert: no matter how you add to your beauty routine, these delicious benefits are a given.

Not a Fan of Dewy Skin?
When you go matte, you never go back. I get it. Some of you aren’t interested in the dewy or natural finish BB cream can leave behind. But all is not lost. Many Organic BB Creams are infused with oils, minerals, and skin-healing nutrients that actually help balance your skin’s oil-producing tendencies over time. But if all else fails, a gentle dusting of Natural or Organic Setting Powder will rid you of oil and shine. Unlike many other makeup products, BB cream really is for every skin type, tone, shade, and texture.
How to Use BB Cream
BB Cream is what you’ll reach for to create an all-natural, glow from within, no-makeup, makeup look. It can replace your foundation, concealer, moisturizer, or be used to spot conceal.
Glowy Radiance
In need of a way to stay glam while outdoors and under the sun? BB cream’s protective radiance is your solution. To create the perfect beachy look, apply a BB cream shade that best matches your ideal tan. Use this shade as your foundation, dust with bronzer , speckle a few fake freckles, top with mascara and a plumping gloss , and you’ve created the perfectly sunkissed, bronzy babe look.
BB Cream will help combat the drying effects of the sun (or frigid cold) and is comfortable enough to wear in any environment while providing an even pigment and protecting your skin.
Last-Minute Look
Don’t have time to sit in front of your vanity and get caked-out with foundation, concealer, contour, and powder? BB cream can be applied quickly. It’s designed to easily absorb and blend into the skin so you don’t have to worry about it looking streaky or blotchy.
Makeup Newby
If you’re just getting into makeup and find that concealer, primers , correctors, and foundation is just way too overwhelming, BB cream is a great place to start. You can even practice your brushwork by applying it with a dense foundation brush or beauty sponge.
Choosing Your BB Cream
Let’s face it. A mug full of foundation, powder, and contour isn’t all the rage it used to be. Radiance, glow, and creating beautiful skin from the inside-out is the latest approach to makeup.
It’s time to replace heavy, full-coverage, foundation with a lightweight BB cream that gives you the best of both worlds: makeup and skincare.
It isn’t just the easy application and dewy finish that gets us excited about using BB cream. It’s really the fact that skincare and makeup can be applied simultaneously. And even when it comes to my skin, I’m all about efficiency.
As much as I’d like to think I follow my skincare religiously, there are days I just want to even out my skin tone quickly, pop on a gloss and be out the door. But without BB cream, the most I can hope for is a little bit of moisture locked in from my foundation. Fortunately, BB cream is the ultimate multitasker that helps my skin look flawless and simultaneously well taken care of.
Depending on which of the Best Organic BB Creams you use, on top of getting a fresh coat of natural pigment to even skin tone and texture, you’ll get the added benefits of:
- Anti-aging treatment
- SPF
- Hydration
- Collagen boost
- Antioxidants
- Fruit pigments
BB cream remains an underrated luxury beauty product that always keeps your skin’s health in mind without leaving your face bare.

Now that you recognize BB cream as an undeniable missing necessity to your makeup routine, here’s how to use it with the most common applicators.

Fingers: Thoroughly wash and dry hands, apply a dime-sized amount of BB cream in one palm, using two fingers from your other hand, warm the product with a swirl. Then apply using the same two fingers. Using a tapping motion, make tiny circles in the desired area.
Tap repeatedly until the product is naturally absorbed and laying seamlessly on the skin. Finger application is great when you’re in a rush, have no tools nearby, or really want a “my skin but better” finish.
Beauty Sponge: A beauty sponge is better if you have oily skin as a finger application may add a little extra oil. A beauty sponge removes the slip of oil and helps disperse BB cream more evenly. Coverage may be lighter than with a finger or brush application as a sponge tends to absorb more product. However, most BB creams are buildable and you can go in for a second coat for slightly fuller coverage.
Wet your sponge with water or spritz with a hydrating setting spray. Apply a dime-sized amount of BB cream to the sponge. Then dot a majority of the cream evenly around your face before using the sponge to blend out the concentrated dots of products. The finish from a beauty sponge is often softer and more of a seamless blend.
Kabuki Brush: Kabuki or foundation brush is like the best of both worlds. You’ll get about the most coverage a BB cream offers, similar to using your fingers, but you can bypass any oils and get a more even application as you would with a beauty sponge.
Apply directly to face or brush and in gentle circular motions, “paint” the BB cream into the skin. If you find the application streaky, go back in with a sponge or fingers to pat and blend the product, removing any lines or streaks.
Should You Use Setting Powder?
Using setting powder will remove the dewy glow that results from the moisturizing properties within BB cream . It’s recommended to use setting powder if you’re going to apply other powder products onto your face, like blush or contour. Setting powder may reduce shine but it will not remove pigment or hinder any of the skincare benefits.
So whether you’re looking for that magical makeup trick to give you a natural, youthful glow, prefer products that are as efficient as possible, or a beauty always on the go–get just enough coverage and treat your skin to the added benefits of BB Cream. Where natural makeup meets luxury skincare.
Andrea,
Good morning , just discovered your site. Love your story & what you’re doing. I also have turned towards natural products as much as I can. Many disadvantages of being way backwoods, mid Missouri etc. However I didn’t have the time to really do much on the more serious level until my older age. Raising 2 sons basically alone from 2 failed marriages (long story I live to tell you about (sometime).
But I’m not 57 n continiously struggle financially being disabled with an even more so disabled 74 yr old 3rd husband of *almost 14 yrs after loosing (love of my lifetime) fiancee in Jan.2005. *and my story goes on.
Plz don’t publish any of this at this time ?
***entirely too many issues that I would like to ask you about… but it’s the start of what looks n feels like a beautiful & glorious day. So cannot say more now. Just wanted to let you know that I now know you n a bit about you. And you now have “tip of iceburg” knowledge of me.
